Did Lisa mention that Moo is rolling over now? I think only from her front to back. She can pretty much get over from her back to front, but can’t quite complete the manoevre.
Here are some photos of the skills she’s acquired lately.
She loves to sit and watch Punky play in the backyard.
She loves to sit with her index finger in her mouth, I think pressing on her gums.

Off to child care
Yesterday was Maisies first day of child care. I dropped her off at 8:30am with her “school bag” and went off to my first day in the office without her. It was very strange not having to worry about if she was awake or asleep or tired or hungry for the first time in four months. It wasnt a whole day without her – I went into the centre for her morning feed, but I was only there for about 10 minutes. She was very alert and just wanted to talk it up whilst I was there. She didnt seem to interested in eating, she kept looking around at what everyone else was up to.
She didnt get much sleeping done there, so she was so tired when she got home yesterday afternoon, she almost fell asleep in the bath. I was trying to get her to stay awake until Cade got home from work, but she was fast asleep at 6:15pm. It will be interesting to see if she is that tired every Monday or whether she will adjust to having her day sleeps there with the other kids.
I have found in the last few weeks that people (just stranger type people that are walking past) stop and say “oh, I dont remember my kids being that small, watch out they grow up so fast”. Annoying as this is – it is also very true. I held a newborn baby in my arms last week, and the first thing I thought was – I dont remember Maisie being this small…
Growing up
Moo has been doing some great growing. She loves to use her legs to kick off on things, wriggle around, squeal and also chill out and play on her activity mat. As of 15 weeks old, her stats are now:
Weight: 6.12 kilos / 13.46 lbs
Length: 59 cms
We are heading home to Albury this weekend, which will be her first big car trip. We have a weekend full of family fun to attend with all of her Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins – which is approx 29 people just in her immediate family! Thats not including all of her Great Grandparents and Great Aunties and Great Uncles that she is yet to meet. We will hopefully have some new photos to put up next week of all the fun.
2.5 months old and swimming
I have always said that I wanted my children to learn to swim early, so today Maisie had her first swimming lesson. We went to the pool with Madeline and Sam and had a great time. It was good timing, as there was a baby auswim class on next to us so we could get some free tips! Maisie had a great time but was very tired by the end of it and fell asleep in my arms after she got changed out of her swimmers. Hopefully we can get to the pool once a week so that by the time summer is here she is more confident in the water.
2 months old
New photo gallery – Maisie @ 2mths old.
Maisie has graduated from the bassinet into her cot and also from the baby bath into the big bath. This has been the biggest change that we have seen in her growth over the past few weeks. She is also spending some more of each day more awake and happy to babble and coo her way through conversations with us.
Cade was running in the City to Surf today. Maisie and I showed our support by watching it on the TV in our PJ’s.
First smiles
sleeping & smiling beauty
Maisie slept from 11:00pm until 6:00am last night. This meant skipping her middle of the night feed for the first time ever. In saying this, we had a busy day with a visit from Penny, a trip to Cronulla Beach with Laura and Ben and then we were off to Church, so she didnt get much sleep during the day. Cade and I are keen to see if now that she has done it once, whether she will continue to keep the dream alive or not.
In other news, she has spent this morning showing me her new smiles that she has found within her facial features. She has been giving out cheeky grins for about 4 weeks, but usually these were with her eyes closed. Today we had eyes wide open and some cooing noises to join in with the fun. After I had enjoyed this new skill of hers, she screamed for 1/2 hour because she was tired and couldnt get to sleep. Must have been tired from all the smiling fun.

Baby acne
Contrary to our initial misgivings, Maisie has not entered a hormonal timewarp and landed smack bang in the middle of her teenage years. A little bit of facial acne is quite common among newborns.
It ain’t pretty but at least it’s common and no cause for alarm.
Hopefully it will clear up on it’s own in a few weeks, before I get too attached to her new nickname ‘Crater face’.
Grunt, burp, hiccup and fart
These are all the non-crying noises that Maisie ever makes. And she makes them all quite frequently.
She grunts while she’s feeding. She burps and hiccups once she’s finished. And she farts pretty much any time she feels the need.
She really doesn’t cry that much, yet. And even when she does, there’s always a reason why. It could just be my bias but her crying doesn’t bother me – it’s not very loud and afterall, it is her only way of communicating effectively with us (sure, the grunts are communication but they don’t elicit a flurry of responses like crying does).
The good news for Lisa is that Maisie is slowly but surely staying awake less and less during the middle of the night. Her nightime feeding is getting slightly shorter by the day, which is very encouraging.
Two weeks old
Had our first trip to the Early Childhood Health Centre. The Child and Family Health Nurses’ official assessment: Healthy newborn.
She’s stacked on the grams – up 600g since discharged from the hospital. Now weighing in at 3930.
She’s had lots of visitors in the past week or so, including an introduction to her first Whitbourn relatives. She’s met her grandparents on one side and a few other relatives and friends. And she’s been spoilt rotten with lots of girly clothes and accessories.
She’s also gotten herself into a very manageable routine of feeding every 4 hours (most of the time). Hopefully this will slowly stretch out to longer intervals during the night.
P.S. Don’t try to empty the water out of the baby bath and answer the phone at the same time. Something (or somebody) is going to get wet!

Maisie home today
A quick update to let you know mum and daughter have arrive home safe and well. We are spending the day adjusting to the new member of the household.
This picture was taken when Maisie was a few hours old. It’s a nice intimate moment caught on Nanny Jill’s mobile phone camera. She’s fast asleep clutching my finger.
Day 4 update
Maisie is passing all her tests and continues to be happy and healthy. At this early stage, she seems to have a relatively calm and laid-back demeanour (a bit like her…). But ofcourse things could change.
Lisa and I were reflecting today about how everything that Maisie is, is a combination of everything Lisa and I are. When I touch Maisie, everything I touch is the product of the both of us.
It’s wierd, but utterly enthralling.
