So we wont go into details here, but over the summer months we have been “encouraging” Maisie to go to the toilet – just letting her know that its there for her to use if she so wishes.
We had two weeks of dry days with “knickers” on, but then we moved house so we went back to nappies. Now she is at the stage that if she is in the mood, she will ask to go to the “toooilllet”, which proves very interesting.
Tonight I had her on and off 6 times during bath time and then again after she was in bed. This happened last week as well, and she was succesful – but it took a while. I think it will be a while before we can get rid of the nappies – but she seems keen enough.
I spend so much time now sitting on the floor in the bathroom… Anyone have any games that I can play in my head whilst the waiting game continues?

Gym?
This last term has seen us at “The Handstand Factory” on a Monday morning for 1 year old gymnastic fun. It goes for 1/2 hour and the kids can run, jump, roll & tumble their way all around the place. As you could imagine for the age group, sometimes its structured, other times not so much.
Maisie is loving it – she loves the trampoline that they have and also loves to “hang” from the bars. She likes to show off her latest skill on the trampoline which is “jump, jump, jump, bottom” which involves just that.
She will be moving up next term to the 2 year old class which goes for 45 minutes – which should serve us all well, as she nevers wants to leave and most days she asks me “gym?”.
6 month check up
Talia Mersey had her 6 month clinic check today which went really well. The clinic sister was very happy with all the growing that she has been doing!
She is eating farex, potato, pumpkin and weetbix and loves drinking from her cup of water. She loves to sleep and is having approx. 3 day sleeps and then goes to bed at 7:00pm and usually wakes up between 7:00- 8:00am. She loves playing with her big sister and their favorite game at the moment is peekaboo. She loves the water and has been swimming in the river, the uni pool and Great Grandpa Berts pool and enjoys bath time with Dad.
Latest stats are:
Length: 65 cm
Weight: 7.15 kilos
Head: 43 cm
Now – I know that you are not meant to compare children, but…
NEWSFLASH – the girls have exactly the same 6 month old stats, apart from the weight (Moo was 50 grams heavier).
Maybe they are twins after all, born 13 months apart…
Maisie teaching Talia how to laugh
Maisie is 18 months old, Talia is 5 months old. Talia has much to learn from her big sister.
This was filmed after the girls had their first night/day apart from each other and were very happy to see each other.
not without my happy
so, mooey went to bed tonite minus the one thing that has been very important in her life over the past 18 months – her “happy” (in other words her dummy – we called it “happy” as that was the brand that we bought).
she is only allowed to have it when she is in bed, so if during the day she goes and gets it out of her cot, we put her to bed or she has to give it up. it has been quite handy for her to let us know when she is tired!
tonite she was asking for “happy” after her bath, during her bible story and then all the way to her room. she sooked for about 15 minutes before i went into settle her and she asked for it again and i explained that she was a big girl and didnt need her happy to have a sleep. she then asked for daddy, so cade came in as well and we both said our goodnights all over again, and we havent heard from her since…
i am not sure if this is it for the pink happy – but its a positive step.
UPDATE: we didnt last long, we went one night and one day sleep without it, but that was it… oh well, we’ll try again another day!

Say My Name – Part Two
Well, for those who remember our previous post of Miss Maisie “saying her name” when prompted, she has now moved up to the next level. She is now able to recognise herself as “Maisie” and has no problem in telling anyone who will listen that her name is “Maisie”.
From checking herself out in the mirror, the front of the oven, windows and anything else that reflects her image back to her, to coming into the study and pointing at the computer and saying “Maisie” – which means she wants us to play the videos that we have taken of her, she just loves to say her name.
Maisie’s milestones from her first week as a 1 year old
- She has learnt to find and point to her Nanny Jill whenver her Nanny’s name is mentioned. This is impressive considering Nanny Jill only arrived in town a few days ago.
- She has learnt to ‘woof’ like a dog. She will even point to a picture of a dog (e.g. walking through the toilet paper aisle in the supermarket) and make a woofing noise.
- She has learnt how to take a spoonful of food and feed herself. She will even pass you back the spoon when she wants some more.
- She has learnt to appreciate the good work of our family GP. Even after being needled in the leg 3 times for her 12mth immunisations, she wanted to give our doctor a kiss goodbye before leaving his office!

Miss Clappy Clapperson
After weeks of waving her hands and arms up and down when she is cheering, Mooey finally clapped on monday afternoon. Since learning this new skill, she hasnt stopped clapping. She clapped when I got her out of bed this morning, after her bottle, throughout breakfast, whilst waving goodbye to Cade, when I picked her up from Child Care, right through dinner, most of her time in the bath and then when I was putting her to bed. I wouldnt be surprised if I went in there now and she was clapping in her sleep…

7 months
Moo is seven months old today. She had a very busy month last month, with a trip to Albury, her first Christmas, a week of Summer Camp, a New Year and the start of two days a week at child care.
This next week is going to be very exciting as she will get to meet my friend Mary Beth who is coming all the way from Kodiak Island in Alaska to visit us, then we will be attending Rachel & Tims wedding on Saturday and then we will be heading off for Moo’s first camping trip to Tumut for a water skiing holiday with the Shanahan/Stevens Clan on the Blowering Dam.

sit sit sit
Maisie loves to sit. Here is one of the latest photos of her just sitting around.
Food glorious food
Maisie had her first taste of solid food today – organic rice ceral. As yummy as that sounds, it looked and tasted pretty wrong. Its good to know that the reason for starting babies on foods such as this is so that they get used to the feel and texture of foods and how to swallow it before they actually need it for growing strong and healthy and liking the taste.

Day 2 – getting the hang of it
