She’s grown soo much in the past 5weeks we thought it time for a audio-visual update.

ABC vs. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Are Lisa and I the only people who had never noticed that ABC and Twinkle Twinkle share the exact same tune?!
Lisa made the shocking discovery last night whilst trying to think up alternative verses to Twinkle Twinkle. Maisie seems to find the tune very soothing but there’s only so much wondering you can do about a little star.
Do you find conversation with your partner boring and mundane? Do what we do – sing your thoughts to each other, to the tune of ‘Twinkle Twinkle’.
“What-are-you-planning-on-doing-to-morrow?”
“I-don’t-know-maybe-doing-some-washing”
Etc.
sleeping & smiling beauty
Maisie slept from 11:00pm until 6:00am last night. This meant skipping her middle of the night feed for the first time ever. In saying this, we had a busy day with a visit from Penny, a trip to Cronulla Beach with Laura and Ben and then we were off to Church, so she didnt get much sleep during the day. Cade and I are keen to see if now that she has done it once, whether she will continue to keep the dream alive or not.
In other news, she has spent this morning showing me her new smiles that she has found within her facial features. She has been giving out cheeky grins for about 4 weeks, but usually these were with her eyes closed. Today we had eyes wide open and some cooing noises to join in with the fun. After I had enjoyed this new skill of hers, she screamed for 1/2 hour because she was tired and couldnt get to sleep. Must have been tired from all the smiling fun.

Skills and stuff
After a pretty crazy couple of hours last night, I learnt that it is okay to not be in control of every situation and I am able to give Maisie to her Dad whilst I sit on the bed and sook. Then, I learnt that even though Maisie may cry for ages and not want to go to sleep, that she would end up being so tired that she would sleep for 5.5 hours which is the most sleep I have had in a row for over a month. This is a skill that I hope Maisie excels at in the coming weeks – because sleeping skills are awesome.
My daughter has a wonderful father. Although he took a crazy amount of photos of her in her first few days of her life and put them up on the world wide web and has given her the nickname “crater face”, I am sure she will learn just how wonderful her father is and what great fathering skills he has.
I have a wonderful husband. Although he has decided to always remember me getting upset at the bookcase not being built right and that he purchased dirty potatoes instead of the clean ones, I have learnt that he is a wonderful husband, and I love that he has so many skills – like looking good in more outfits than one and his crazy huuuumour.
Next week, Cade and I will have been “together” for nine years – and I have learnt that even though you think you know someone really really really really well, they can always surprise you with being even better than what you could ever imagine.
Baby acne
Contrary to our initial misgivings, Maisie has not entered a hormonal timewarp and landed smack bang in the middle of her teenage years. A little bit of facial acne is quite common among newborns.
It ain’t pretty but at least it’s common and no cause for alarm.
Hopefully it will clear up on it’s own in a few weeks, before I get too attached to her new nickname ‘Crater face’.

Grunt, burp, hiccup and fart
These are all the non-crying noises that Maisie ever makes. And she makes them all quite frequently.
She grunts while she’s feeding. She burps and hiccups once she’s finished. And she farts pretty much any time she feels the need.
She really doesn’t cry that much, yet. And even when she does, there’s always a reason why. It could just be my bias but her crying doesn’t bother me – it’s not very loud and afterall, it is her only way of communicating effectively with us (sure, the grunts are communication but they don’t elicit a flurry of responses like crying does).
The good news for Lisa is that Maisie is slowly but surely staying awake less and less during the middle of the night. Her nightime feeding is getting slightly shorter by the day, which is very encouraging.
